What they’re saying about Not For Resale

"For generations, the trade-in store was a vital space for gaming culture. Not For Resale is a bittersweet requiem for these independent shops." - Will Lennon, Washington City Paper

“…[Not For Resale] peers into the lives of small business owners who run used game stores, some of which were born during Nintendo's early console days and others that came from the next generation of players turned retailers. Through their unique perspectives and interviews with gaming experts, Not For Resale offers an inside look at the romantic side of vintage gaming, as well as the complex truths you might face when you build your life around them in an increasingly digital and fast-paced world. Their side of the industry is no stranger to love, loss, failure, or success, and Not For Resale gracefully shepherds you through their stories.” - Peter Brown, Gamespot

“Cannot. Miss. This.” - Nolan North (Uncharted franchise)

Not For Resale attempts to capture all facets of the conversation, like the fate of independent game stores, the struggle over preservation, or the problems with today’s digital marketplaces.” - Chris Kohler, Kotaku

“[Director Kevin] James has crafted a warm, funny, and wistful film which should resonate with anyone who ever blew dust out of a cartridge or scoured a paperback player’s guide for cheat codes.” - Oscar Goff, Boston Hassle

“It’s about what’s lost when a medium, once dependent on physical media, seems to give up on the format that might make preservation easier, and what gets lost in translation. Spoiler alert: It’s a whole lot of history.” - Vanyaland

“… a well-documented snapshot of a specific moment in time.” - David Oxford, MegaVisions

“Regardless of if you are a fan of the retro scene, or modern video games, you will find something about the film to enjoy.” - Gaming Conviction

“Independent Film Festival Boston unveils a packed lineup.” Boston Globe, April 4, 2019.
